Two men in their 20s, each facing a possible death sentence in his respective case, briefly appeared before Judge John T. Alexander in Barren Circuit Court on Monday for pretrial conferences.
Both cases, however, were simply continued to a new date in September, at the request of defense attorneys, with little to no other discussion.
Aaron A. Rodriguez, 26, is charged with murder in relation to the death of Glasgow resident Melissa Miller, 54, in May 2021. He allegedly came from Nashville, where he lived, to Glasgow on the premise that he – under a false name – was going to buy electronic equipment that had been posted for sale on Facebook by Miller’s grandson. Rodriguez is accused of firing a gun at Miller from the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by a female. Miller was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased, according to the criminal complaint in the case.
The trial for Rodriguez, who is also charged with first-degree robbery, is scheduled to begin Jan. 30 and is expected to take multiple weeks.
Cody Bacon, 23, faces two counts of murder and and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment in relation to the deaths of his brother, David A. Pace, 24, and Pace’s wife, Brittany R. Pace, 22, at the couple’s Glasgow home on Sept. 2, 2021.
The trial for his case had been scheduled to begin this month but was postponed a few months ago at the request of the defense, and no new dates are set.
Commonwealth’s Attorney John Gardner has filed notice in each case that he intends to prosecute them with the death penalty as an option.
