The Western Kentucky University Glasgow campus, one of five regional campuses WKU offers students — the others being Elizabethtown, Fort Knox, Owensboro and Somerset — has a 14 percent increase in face-to-face degree seeking students, according to Stephanie Prichard, regional adviser at WKU.
“Our on-campus numbers are up from last year,” Prichard said.
“WKU Glasgow is growing,” Derick Strode, director of regional campuses, added.
Prichard and Strode said this increase is before the drop date for classes, which, according to WKU’s academic calendar, is scheduled for Jan. 23, but Prichard said she has not seen much fluctuation in the numbers so far.
This 14 percent increase does not include the students that are part of the Early College Program, Prichard said. This number represents only incoming freshman who are enrolled at WKU with the goal of receiving their diploma. If all the Early College students were counted, she added, the number would be very high.
Prichard said the increase is welcomed news after the lack luster numbers they saw during the COVID years. She attributed the increase, at least partially, to their emphasis on recruiting in the high schools and in the communities.
According to Prichard there are six degrees students can get at the Glasgow campus including criminology, elementary education with a possible “dual certification in special education,” professional legal studies and psychology. She also said people can get all their general education courses at the campus as well.
Currently, Prichard said, there are no plans on expanding the campus but they are “always offering new classes” to better serve the students and to expand their opportunities.
