US Navy captain to speak at Barren County High School during Veteran’s Day program

In honor of Veterans Day, all Barren County elementary schools, Barren Academy of Virtual and Expanded Learning, Barren County Middle School, and Barren County High School will host assemblies to honor those who have served in the military. These programs work not only to honor our local veterans but also to educate students about the importance and history of Veterans Day.

The largest of these events will be held at Barren County High School on November 10 at 10:00 a.m. Honored guest Captain Craig T. Mattingly, Commander, Naval Service Training Command, will be speaking.

Captain Mattingly, a native of Austin, Kentucky, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1987 as an Aviation Anti-Submarine Warfare Operator. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1995 and was designated as a Naval Flight Officer in 1997. He holds a Master of Science degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, Executive Leadership and Management certifications from the University of Notre Dame, is Joint Qualified, and is an alumnus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI.

Mattingly has a long and distinguished career in the U.S. Navy, with his most recent assignment as Senior Military Advisor to the Secretary of the Navy.

– Austin Tracy Elementary – November 10, 7:20 a.m.
– Barren County High School – November 10, 10:00 a.m.
– Barren County Middle School – November 9, 8:00 a.m.
– Eastern Elementary School – November 10, 7:15 a.m.
– Hiseville Elementary – November 8, 8:30 a.m.
– North Jackson Elementary – November 9, 9:30 a.m.
– Park City Elementary – November 9, 8:00 a.m.
– Red Cross Elementary – November 9, 9:00 a.m.
– Temple Hill Elementary – November 10, 7:20 a.m.
