The Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College Glasgow Campus was recently ranked No. 5 in the “Top Ranked LPN Programs in Kentucky” with a score of 97.13 out of 100 by PracticalNursing.org. The website states it is dedicated to helping people find “exciting careers in healthcare” across the United States.
The website assists individuals in finding the best licensed practical or vocational nursing programs based on the state in which they reside. It also provides resources to prospective LPNs or LVNs like the expected salary, the job description, the educational and licensure requirements, and aids and tips for students in such programs.
“Through our mission statement, we believe providing students with better transparency in regards to practical and vocational nursing programs throughout their state allows them to better match the right school accessible to them,” the website states. “This is the reason we have developed our LPN and LVN Programs Ranking based on NCLEX-PN exam passing rates.”
National Council Licensure Examination is a test given to all nursing school graduates. The two letters that follow NCLEX designate whether the exam is for practical nurses or register nurses, PN denoted practical nurses while RN denotes registered nurses. The exam is then reviewed by the National State Board of Nursing, which was founded in 1978, to see “how nurses are really doing in their field.”
“The NCLEX is not your average test,” the site states. “Because nurses must be knowledgeable and safe to practice, the NCSBN focuses on high level thinking. Instead of rote memorization or fill in the blank answers, the test is based on application and analysis questions.”
According to the NCSBN, the pass rate for all candidates — whether first-time or repeat or whether U.S. based or international — was 81.44 percent for July-September 2023. This brings the year-to-date to 74.23 percent.
Above SkyCTC-Glasgow on the list is Somerset Community College, SKyCTC-Boling Green, Somerset Community College-Laurel Campus and Maysville Community and Technical College in Morehead. While colleges like West Kentucky Community and Technical College and Jefferson Community and Technical College are ranked further down on the list with scores of 96.44 and 87.70 respectively.
