In May of 2022, Thomas Oil came to be when Chuck and Glenda Thomas purchased a business in Glasgow formerly known as Big Meadow Oil.

Thomas Oil is a distributor of Key Oil, and the Thomas family put their expertise and know-how in the business to work.

“Our standards and services offered by Thomas Oil are the same. We have new faces, new ambition, and we are a  growth-minded company, but we do offer all of the same services as always,” said Brandy Ford of Thomas Oil.

“It is about building relationships with our customers, and we are customer service oriented,” said Katie Baise, fuel manager of Thomas Oil.  Baise is one of two employees who stayed during the purchase and renaming.

“Listening, really knowing your customers is huge.  That comes with listening to them beyond the order form.  Our conversations might last two minutes just to let them talk, because they are like family.  We know their names and we know their stories,” Baise said.

Bulk fuel deliveries to farms, schools, businesses, construction sites include kerosene, on and off road diesel, ethanol and ethanol free gas.

“We do fill bulk oil and we sell packaged oil, anything from a case, to a tote, to a drum,” Ford said.  They carry Mobil Oil, Shaffer Oil and VP Racing Fluid.

“We are the only local provider of VP Racing fuel, and we are the biggest Schaeffer Oil distributor in the region,” Baise said.  Thomas Oil serves Barren, Metcalfe, Allen, Hart, Monroe, and Cumberland counties, and have a few customers in parts of Warren, Green and Edmonson, as well.

Thomas and his family have found the transition from owning Thomas Transport to starting Thomas Oil rewarding in many ways.

“It has been good dealing with people we know rather than people in other states,” Thomas said.  His wife Glenda agreed and said she liked the more intimate, community oriented aspects of owning Thomas Oil.

Through dedication and hard work, over the course of a decade Thomas turned Thomas Transport into a 12 truck operation.  Of course, owning a self-made business comes with challenges.

“It was a seven day a week job for 11 solid years,” Thomas said.  He sold Thomas Transport to a former employee in 2022, and hasn’t looked back.

The Thomas family now enjoys more family-oriented work hours, and everyone involved takes pride in what they do.

“We take pride in being reliable and consistent,” Baise said.

“We attempt in every way possible to do what we say we will do when we say we will do it, and be honest, integral and humble,” Ford said.

The humility is a quality necessary for the forbidding nature of the gas and oil industry.

“Everyone complains about fuel prices, but it is beyond our control.  But we do not make any more or less with the fluctuation of prices and strive to be transparent about that,” Baise said.

For Chuck Thomas, buying Thomas Oil gave him the opportunity to take his extensive knowledge and learn much more where oil is concerned.  He owes much of that to the Key Oil family, and takes pride in the partnership.

Thomas Oil is located at 219 Industrial Drive in Glasgow, and has a satellite office in Scottsville.  The Glasgow location is open Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., with the 24 hour/ 7-day-a-week pay at the pump option. You can visit them on Facebook by clicking here.
