Circuit Court Clerk Krissie Coe Fields filed her paperwork this morning, Nov. 30, in the Barren County Clerk’s office, officially announcing her bid for re-election to a fourth term in office.
“This job is humbling and teaches me something new every day,” Fields said in a press release. “I truly love serving people…It is about serving all citizens no matter what their political affiliation is and I believe anyone would tell you my staff of 16 and myself always go above and beyond what is required to help someone with their concerns. This is what being a servant of the people is all about. I have always enjoyed the support of voters from all political parties in my previous elections and I ask for your continued support and vote to remain your Circuit Court Clerk. I ask you to continue to let me work for you.”
Fields has been in the position since she was first appointed by former circuit court judge Phillip Patton in 2006. Her experience on the job, along with her experience on the Glasgow City Council, Barren County Fiscal Court and in Frankfort, is one advantage she said she would have against any potential challengers.
“Experience matters,” Fields said. “I’ve been doing this job for 17 years. I draw from my experience being on the Glasgow City Council [and] being a county magistrate, so I believe I have a different perspective.”
She also reflected on all the changes the circuit court clerk position has undergone since 2006, like the expansion of civil case e-filing, the online payment of fines, e-warrants and eEPOs, and now the transition to the regional issuance model of driver’s licenses, and all the changes she expects to come in the future.
“There have just been a tremendous amount of changes that have taken place and I foresee a lot of changes taking place in the [coming years],” Fields said. “There have just been so many advancements taking place through technology that’s just mind boggling. I think ‘gosh, how much it’s changed during my tenure here, my 17 years that I’ve been here.’”
Despite the changes she is confident her experience in the judicial branch of government, but, to some extent, the other branches as well, will be an advantage to her moving forward.
Currently, according to records obtained at the county clerk’s office, Fields — who filed as a Democratic candidate — has no opposition in the Circuit Court Clerk race.
The upcoming election will feature a lot more local races than this past election as all three city councils — Glasgow, Cave City and Park City — will be up for re-election as will numerous school board positions and, the big race on the ballot, the presidential. As of now only two other individuals have filed their paperwork: Marna Kirkpatrick and Elizabeth Shoemaker, both of whom filed to run for Glasgow City Council.
