Pearl Shelley Faw, 90, of Horse Cave died peacefully at her home Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023. Pearl was born Jan. 20, 1933, a daughter of the late M.L. Shelley and Mary Elizabeth Osborne Shelley, in the Woodstock community of Pulaski County. She grew up in the Good Hope Community along with her five brothers and attended school until the ninth grade.
As a young woman, she married Ervan Faw of Eubank on June 15, 1955. Together they built and operated several businesses both in Michigan and Cave City, Kentucky. They shared a life of love and happiness until his passing in 1995.
Pearl was an active member of Cave City Baptist Church, which she joined in 1969 after moving to the area. For many years, she taught a young girl’s Sunday school class. In her spare time, she enjoyed the Cave City Business and Professional Women club. As a widow, she enjoyed a few adventures on cruise ships with her close friends Willodean Ray and Zell Hunt. They also enjoyed the Caveland Jazzy Girls, their Redhat Club, as well as trips to Gatlinburg for Gospel singing conventions. Her hobbies included quilting and crossword puzzles.
Pearl leaves to honor her memory her three daughters, Cheryl Davis and husband Chuck, and Debbie Thomason, both of Cave City, and Lori Wilson and husband Chad of Horse Cave; six grandchildren, Erin and Nathan Dobbs of Augusta, Kansas, Shelley and Bill Lowe of Bowling Green, Andrew Davis of Hartford, Beth and Nathan Glodjo of Bowling Green, Matt and Kara Forbes of Horse Cave, and Jordon and Kris Upchurch of Horse Cave; 12 great-grandchildren, Keira and Elsa Dobbs, Davis Lowe, Michael and Myles Davis, Natalie and Haley Glodjo, Brynlea Forbes, Bailey Hensley, Remington, and Jayma and August Upchurch; along with two sisters-in-law, Barbara Shelley and Frances Faw; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 40 years, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Ernest, Harvey, Harlan and George Shelley; two half-brothers and a half-sister; and her son-in-law, Chuck Thomason.
Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, with burial in Cave City Cemetery. Ryan Broers is officiating the service, and pallbearers are Chuck Davis, Andrew Davis, Matthew Forbes, Chad Wilson, Nathan Glodjo and Bill Lowe. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Bill Holsinger, 86 of Cave City died Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Pike County native was born Sept. 23, 1937, to the late Garland and Mary Ridenour Holsinger. He was married for 61 years to the love of his life, Daisy Smith Holsinger, who survives.
Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith. He worked as a supervisor at Mammoth Cave National Park, owner of Save-A-Lot and owner of Holsinger Realty and Construction.
Besides his wife, Daisy, he leaves to honor his memory his son, David Holsinger (Dennise) of Cave City; grandchildren Charlie Holsinger, Dusty Hood, Tyler Lambirth and Whitney Furlong (Chris); great-grandson, Eli Walden; sister, Areta Hatfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Cheri Boston, and siblings, Charles Holsinger (Gerri) and Jewell Stull.
Graveside service is at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at Cave City Cemetery. Patton Funeral Home Cave City Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.

Vernetia Slaughter Parsley, 94, of Rhoda died peacefully at her residence, with her loved ones by her side, Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023. The Edmonson County native was born June 23, 1929, to the late Herbert P. and Delphia L. Wolfe Slaughter. She was married for 70 years to her devoted husband and helpmate, Junior Parsley, until they were parted by his death Jan. 27, 2019.
Vernetia retired after working many years at Eaton Corp. She was a member of Beaver Dam United Baptist Church, and when her health permitted, she loved preparing Sunday meals for the men of God and her family. She also loved traveling across the United States and had visited the forty-eight contiguous states.
She leaves to honor her memory her children, Roger Parsley (Jeannie) of Brownsville, Randy Parsley (Sherian) of Brownsville and Deanna Vincent (Billy Ray) of Rhoda; grandchildren, Brian Parsley (Heather), Michael Parsley (Kimberly), Tyra Ballance (Bill), Travis Parsley (Jessica), Lana Parsley, Bo Vincent (Ashley) and Emily Bullock (Daniel); and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at Beaver Dam United Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Patton Funeral Home Brownsville Chapel.

Melba Jones Wheat, 97, of Louisville died Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, at her residence. She was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Muhlenberg County to the late Sallye Jones and Rene Wilson Jones. Melba was a baker at A & P Bakery in Louisville and was of the Baptist faith. In her free time, Melba loved quilting.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Raymer (Bill); three sons, Buckley Herrell (Janet), William Herrell and Leslie Herrell (Karen); three stepchildren, Wanda Arms (Ronnie), David Lynn Wheat and John Wheat; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, David Wheat; one daughter, Margie Rose; one son, Ronnie Herrell; and eight siblings.
Funeral service is at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home, with a private burial Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
