The five people that make up the Caverna Independent School Board of Education, along with the district’s Superintendent Amanda Abell, are set to meet for the first time in the new year on Jan. 11 in their central office to discuss a slew of agenda items.

The meeting’s agenda includes many of the boilerplate things that are featured on every Caverna Board of Education meeting such as the “Orders of the Treasurer” and “Bus Inspections,” but before the meeting is called to order the board members must elect a chairperson and a vice-chairperson.

Currently Wayne Hatcher serves as chairperson and Glaine Percell is the vice-chairperson, but, according to order 394 — which was adopted by the board on April 1993 — states that “the first meeting in January shall be an organizational meeting for the purpose of electing a chairman and vice-chairman.” Both positions serve a 1 year term “beginning immediately after their election[s].”

Also on the board’s agenda, and much like Glasgow Independent Schools, who approved theirs at the Jan. 8 meeting, a draft budget is scheduled to go before the members.

Other agenda items include:

  • Call meeting to order
  • Public comments
  • Superintendent Reports: Student/staff recognition/student presentations
  • approve minutes from Dec. 14 meeting
  • Seven consent items
    • Orders of the treasurer
    • Finance reports, monthly activity funds, lunchroom accounts
    • Bus inspections
    • Superintendent travel
    • Seasonal travel
    • School wide fundraisers/field trips
    • Grants
  • Approve School and Community Nutrition Physical Activity Report Card
  • Set meeting dates for the 2024 year
