Glasgow Middle School students win in three categories, place top five in eight others at Junior Beta

Facing the frigid and snow covered roads of last week, children from Glasgow Middle School traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, to compete in Kentucky’s 35th annual Junior Beta Convention. Students won in three categories and placed in the top five in several other competitions.

The organization of Beta is divided into three categories, each with its own competitions including the 83rd Senior Beta Convention, which took place Jan. 17-19, the 4th Elementary Beta Convention and the two-day Junior Beta Convention. Junior Beta consists of students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

GMS brought a total of 49 students to this year’s competition.

Of the 49 students, five won in their respective competitions.  Hadley Stinson, Callaway Mackie and Evelyn Myatt won in the Book Battle category, Wyatt Morgan won in the Fiber Arts competition and Avrie Thomas received first place in speech.

Shaurya Chaudhary placed second in seventh grade social studies.

Ruby Zacarias received third place in seventh grade Spanish, Fisher Allen also finished third in sixth grade science as well as Karisan Peters, who placed third in the Solo Dance Performing Arts category.

Piper Eicher finished fourth in poetry.

Brinleigh Mackie finished fifth in recycled arts and Callaway Mackie also finished fifth in mixed media. The congregation also placed fifth in performing group talent.

Those who qualified will compete at the National Convention, which takes place in Savannah, Georgia, in June from the 10-13.
