The Kentucky Division of Forestry issued a reminders this morning, Feb. 15, reminding Barren Countians and Kentuckians that burning is prohibited anytime before 6 p.m.

This notice comes as Kentucky enters the first of the “Forest Fire Hazard Season,” which runs from Feb. 15 through April 30. The other hazard season occurs in October through December.

Even if the precautions described in Kentucky Revised Statute 149.375 are taken it is unlawful to “set fire to or to procure another to set fire to any flammable material capable of spreading fire located within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland except between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. local time or when the ground is covered with snow.”

The division also reminds people that all fire should remain attended until it is extinguished. This notice runs in tandem with any local burning laws that may be in effect.
