Applications are now open for eight annual scholarships of $1,000 each provided by Farmers RECC, a nonprofit electric cooperative that serves parts of 11 Kentucky counties including Barren, Hart, Edmonson, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Larue, Metcalfe, Monroe, Adair and Warren.

“Farmers RECC has established an annual scholarship program to assist in financing higher education for students whose families, or themselves, are cooperative members,” the Farmers website states.

According to the scholarship webpage the eight scholarships are divided among the three Farmers RECC district. District I, which includes Barren and Edmonson Counties, will receive three scholarships. District II, and the three counties within it, will get two as will District III. The other is an “At-Large” scholarship.

“Scholarships can be used for tuition, fees, campus housing, textbooks, and other supplies directly related to the recipient’s education,” the website states. “Scholarships are paid to the accredited college, university, technical college or trade school of the students’ choice.”

To be eligible for the scholarship an applicant, or their guardian, needs to be a Farmers RECC member and the “[s]tudent must be entering into their freshman year or higher of post-secondary education, or pursuing a Master’s degree. ”

A person wishing to apply for the scholarship should submit the pre-registration form by April 30. The drawing is scheduled to take place in early May.

“Farmers RECC Scholarships are one-time only awards,” the website states. “Previous winners may not apply.”
