The Green River Valley Water District recently competed in the 25th annual Great American Water Taste Test against 41 other water companies and finished second.
The taste test was hosted on Feb. 7 by the National Rural Water Association, or NRWA, a nonprofit “dedicated to training, supporting, and promoting the water and wastewater professionals that serve small and rural communities across the country.” The NRWA provides training and technical support through their state rural water associations, which currently encompasses over 31,000 utility companies throughout the Unites States and its territories.
“NRWA programs generally focus on assisting small and rural communities that serve less than 10,000 people,” the association’s website states.
The Green Valley Water District is under the umbrella of the Kentucky Rural Water.
Last Wednesday, members of the Green Valley Water District, which serves Cave City, competed in the NRWA’s Great American Water Taste Test that brought together 41 competitors from all over the U. S. The district won the silver medal according to the judges of the event, which were comprised of U. S. House agriculture committee minority and majority staff members and USDA administrators. The district was beat by Columbus Utilities based out of Wisconsin, but finished above utility companies from Louisiana and Massachusetts.
“We are very humbled and honored to receive such a prestigious award,” the district stated on social media. “The hours of blood sweat and tears from everyone within our district feels all worth it when we know we are able to provide safe drinking water to your customers. We want to thank everyone who makes this all possible.”
