The seven girls who spearheaded the BRAWA donation drive presented BRAWA Board Member Molly Taylor with a check for $2,249 on March 25. According to South Green Teacher Erin Zurek they did this project not only with the hopes of helping the shelter, though that was their main goal, but also to present in Lexington this Wednesday, March 27, at the Student Technology Leadership Program, or STLP. This money is going towards the shelter's flood plain - which includes the berm currently under construction around the shelter. “There’s a lot going on so every penny saved on our end [and] every penny people donate to this cause is going to help us,” Taylor said. “It’s going to help us help more animals. This is huge for us; this is a very expensive endeavor but it’s what we have to do to protect the future of BRAWA and our building.” Michael Crimmins/Glasgow News 1.

This is the third year these STLP students have chosen a project that benefitted the shelter, Zurek said. Though, unlike prior years this drive did not focus on physical goods like bleach or paper towels, but financial assistance. Zurek said these seven students met with Taylor at the beginning of the school year to find out what the shelter really needed. Michael Crimmins/Glasgow News 1.

Zurek said the students chose BRAWA as the target of their assistance because each student has at least one pet, many of whom are from BRAWA. “I’m sure if their parents said okay they’d have a lot more,” Zurek said. Michael Crimmins/Glasgow News 1.
