With Saturday drawing ever closer, and Glaswegians and Barren Countians alike prepare for a weekend full of festivities, the Glasgow Police Department announced day-long closures for streets affected by the several events planned on April 20.

In a press release sent by the department, streets around the Glasgow Public Square will be closed on April 20 from 6 a.m. until 11 p.m. According to a map sent by Glasgow Police Department Public Information Officer Terry Flatt three sides — North, East and South — of the Square will be closed to traffic as will parts of South Green, East Main and East Washington streets.

“Please make arrangements to use a alternate route,” the release states.

The road closure is due to several events currently scheduled to take place, which includes the third annual Sustainable Glasgow 5K, Sip, Shop and Stroll — the self-proclaimed “biggest shopping event in the history of Glasgow” — and the Saturday staple: the Bounty of the Barrens Farmers Market.

Sip, Shop and Stroll is set to begin at 10 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. with 142 vendors, roughly 12 food trucks, live music and face painting. Also, the Sustainable Glasgow 5K will start in front of Glasgow City Hall at 7:30 a.m. with in-person registration taking place at First Christian Church on Friday, April 19, from 5-7 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit Sustainable Glasgow and supplement the Double Dollars program for the farmers’ market.
