With the primary election day fast approaching the Barren County Clerk’s Office — one of the oldest known officials in local government whose responsibility it is to “administer elections” — has put out a sample ballot.
The county clerk publicized this sample ballot in compliance with Kentucky Revised Statute 429.290, which states that the ballot “or any supplementary materials” shall be published prior to an election.
According to the 2024 election calendar the primary election date is May 21 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. at any of the nine voting centers located throughout the county, though early excused voting began yesterday in the clerk’s office and will run until May 15. After that voting period concludes will come the early no-excuse voting at the Barren County Extension Office from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on May 16-18
Unlike the general election — which is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5 — this ballot will feature only the presidential candidates and candidates for the U.S. House of Representative 2nd District. The primary ballot will not feature all the elected positions up for election in November as many of those do not hold a primary election, for example Glasgow City Council only holds a primary if there are “double plus one” candidate who have filed to run.
