On May 28 at 1:30 p.m. Dedontae Morrison, a Glasgow man charged with murder, appeared via Zoom for the next step in his case.

Morrison’s pretrial conference was the first case on the docket for Barren County Circuit Court Judge John T. Alexander to review. Appearing before the judge was Morrison, who appeared via Zoom and not in person, Commonwealth’s Attorney John Gardner and Morrison’s defense attorney, Lauren Hunter.

The conference lasted less than 5 minutes with Gardner mentioning the ex parte motion — “a motion filed by one party without notice to any other party” — filed by Hunter for a mental health evaluation on Morrison.

“We have some concerns about competency based on some conversations,” Hunter said.

With no objection from Gardner, the motion was accepted by Alexander. A review of Morrison’s case at the Barren County Circuit Court Clerk’s office did not yet have the evaluation.

The one other matter that was discussed involved the preservation of records for review by both parties.

According to the court website a review on the Morrison case has been scheduled for June 11 at 1:30 p.m. though “if arguments needed to be made” that would take place on June 25.
