Julie Wright Jolly has been chosen by the Barren Circuit Court to fill the unexpired term of current Barren County Circuit Court Clerk Krissie Coe Fields.
On May 20 Coe Fields (D), who had filed in the county clerk’s office last Nov. to run for reelection as circuit clerk, announced she had accepted an appointment to the state parole board; effectively ending her 18-year-long tenure in the position.
Coe Fields challenger was Republican Julie Wright Jolly, who officially announced her candidacy on Jan. 3. With Coe Fields’ appointment Jolly now runs unopposed going into the November general election.
For a person to qualify as a candidate for circuit court clerk they must first pass the required exam, which consists of 150 questions that cover the clerk manual, the code of conduct, the clerk’s accounting manual and the “Judicial Branch Personnel Policies.”
Barren County Clerk Helena Birdwell Chase said Jolly was the only individual in Barren County who took the required exam. The Kentucky Court of Justice website states that no “special exams” are scheduled.
“The chief justice of Barren Circuit Court having been notified by the Barren County Circuit Clerk that the office will be vacant as of the close of business on June 15, 2024,” the appointment states. “Julie Wright Jolly being qualified for the office…[is] hereby appoint[ed] to fill the unexpired term as Barren Circuit Clerk, effective June 16, 2024.”
The appointment is signed by Circuit Court Judge John Alexander.
A swearing-in ceremony of Jolly as Barren County Circuit Court clerk is scheduled for June 12 at 4 p. m. in circuit courtroom C at the Barren County Courthouse.
