On September 20 and 21 , the South-Central Kentucky Cultural Center will present Harvest of History, a cemetery walking tour with reenactors dressed in period costumes portraying historic characters of our community’s past.
Harvest of History tickets are $20 and are available for purchase at the Cultural Center. Call 270-651-9792 in advance for best availability as the event sold out in 2023. All tours begin at the museum and transportation is provided to the cemetery. Five tours are available this year (6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.) on both nights. Buses will leave the museum promptly 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour so arrive at the museum 30 minutes prior to the scheduled tour time to check-in and board the bus. Each tour will last approximately one and a half hours.
In celebration of the 225th anniversary of the founding of the city, this year’s theme is Glasgow 225. The characters selected this year either lived in Glasgow or near the city and are from various time periods and walks of life.
Jacob Locke was a pioneer preacher in the early 1800’s at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church and helped establish the Glasgow Baptist Church. James G. Hardy was a Lieutenant Governor in 1855 who died in office and called Glasgow his home at that time.
David Richardson is a 104-year-old patriot veteran of the Revolutionary War and War of 1812 who greeted the Union Civil War soldiers each day as they entered Fort Williams to report for duty.
Arthur Krock, who became an award-winning journalist during his career, wrote a book about his boyhood days growing up at the turn of the century on the square in Glasgow.
Addie (Barber) Curd was an African American mother and grandmother who was a patron of businesses in Glasgow during the Jim Crow era.
Following the Gray Way, businesswoman, wife, patriot and mother, Lois Gray, along with her husband and later her family, built an enormously successful business with their humble beginnings in Glasgow.
