Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd signed an executive order on Sept. 4 placing Barren County under a burn ban until further notice.
According to the executive order the ban is due to the “extremely dry weather” which is increasing the risk of fire hazards. The order further specifies that contained campfires are exempt from this order.
The penalties for noncompliance are detailed in Barren County’s code of ordinances. Specifically, a person can be “fined up to the sum of $500 for each offense.”
The burn ban will remain in effect until “lifted by revocation” after the hazardous conditions subside.
