As numerous cars trekked through the Glasgow Square producing the customary hum of activity, The Barren River Area Safe Space had a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new office.
The nonprofit’s new location is in the rear of 101 N. Public Square, which Executive-Director Tori Henninger said fosters the feeling of anonymity while remaining in an easy-to-find location for Barren Countians.
While not the first Barren County location — Henninger said the nonprofit had previously had an office in the old U.S. Bank building, which is now the Barren County Development Center — this will be the “biggest” access point for residents of the 500-square-mile county to utilize their services, which includes a 24/7 crisis line, case management, children services, a food pantry and housing advocacy.
According to the safe pace website its mission is to “provide safety and support to victims of domestic violence and their children and empower them with opportunities that lead to self-sufficiency.”
Founded in 1980, BRASS serves the development district’s ten-county region. The crisis line in 1-800-928-1183.
