Due to several factors — be they graduation, retirement, relocation or employment — Barren County has decreased to 5.2 percent unemployment for September 2024 compared to the last month’s statistic of 5.5 percent.
The Kentucky Center for Statistics, an agency within the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet, recently released their preliminary figures for September 2024 that showed there are roughly 934 people unemployed in Barren County. The current Labor Force for the county is 17,986 and of that 17,052 individuals are currently employed.
Last month, August 2024, had a 5.5 percent of unemployment reported by the center with the labor force at 17,956, which is 30 people greater.
The ten-county Barren River region had 7,394 individuals categorized as unemployed, leading to a percentage of 5.1. That percentage was also the statewide average, which amounts to 106,666 people.
These county-specific numbers are not seasonally adjusted due to the small sample size, meaning the “sharp fluctuation” the statistics can undergo due to seasonal events or school openings and closings have not been accounted for.
“Seasonal adjustments eliminate these influences and make it easier to observe statistical trends,” the release states.
