Both Caverna Middle School and Caverna Elementary School saw improvements in their 2024 school assessment data while the district’s high school dropped by several points.
The School Assessment and Accountability data is released each year by the Kentucky Department of Education and provides a color designation and overall score to commonwealth schools based on standardized test in certain subject areas and student surveys, which are used to provide evaluations for public schools. It’s from this data that most schools develop improvement plans.
According to information received from Caverna’s Director of Student Achievement Whitney Paul, Caverna Elementary School increased in its overall score by 7.4 points when compared to 2023; going from a 31.2 to a 38.6. The school also increased its color rating from red — the lowest color designation in overall performance — to orange.
Caverna Middle School stayed in the orange designation but did see a 10.1 point increase to 47.7 compared to 2023’s 37.6 overall score.
The high school — which has two additional categories of postsecondary readiness and graduation rate — slipped from the orange color rating it was in last year to the red designation in 2024 and went from 50.5 in overall score to 44.3 in 2024.
