The Joint City-County Planning Commission members only had one agenda item to discuss at their evening meeting on Jan. 21, which was a zone change application on New Bowling Green Road.

Newcomb Oil Company requested a rezoning on 4.434 acres of land at 2455 New Bowling Green Road — the property at the intersection of the Veterans Outer Loop and US 68/Ky.80 near Wright Implement — from a light industrial district to a highway service district. According to the application, the company plans to put a FiveStar convenience store and gas station on the majority of the property, though commission director Kevin Myatt said he had not received the plans.

The company is based in Bardstown and currently operates more than 90 FiveStar convenience stores across the commonwealth, Indiana and Tennessee.

According to the Glasgow zoning regulations, a highway service district ” is intended to encourage the establishment of intensive commercial uses area designed to meet the needs of a community or regional market area and typically oriented to customers who travel by motor vehicle.”

The application was met with unanimous approval. Once the commission approves the minutes at the February meeting, the application will be forwarded to the Glasgow Common Council.
