Christopher Rye has entered a guilty plea in the May 2024 McKenna Street shooting that wounded juvenile Matthew Arms.

Rye was arrested and charged on one count of first-degree assault and three counts of wanton endangerment. He was later indicted by a Barren County grand jury on those charges.

In June, Rye entered into a not guilty plea, but, according to court records, he entered a plea of guilty on the amended charge of second-degree assault, under extreme emotional disturbance, and three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment — all of which are class D felonies.

On all four counts he was recommended a four-year sentence — which will be served “concurrently” with one another — and a $1,000 fine. According to the court website, Rye’s sentencing will be Feb. 13 at 3 p.m.

The court records further state Rye must serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole, that he “is not eligible for probation or shock probation” and that he “shall have no contact, directly or indirectly, with the victims and/or their families.”
