The Barren County Contractors Association had its inaugural meeting on Jan. 27 in the packed fiscal courtroom.
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said she has been working with attorney Brian Pack to start this nonprofit, which seeks to make the bidding process easier. Building and Electrical Inspector Jim Griffin said the main purpose of the nonprofit was to “balance the field a bit” and bring all qualified contractors under the same umbrella.
As it was the first meeting, the main agenda item was the appointment of the five-person board. Don Wyatt was elected as chair and Andrew Collins as vice chair. The other board members are Kelton Scott, Greg Harris and Austin Guarino. All five contractors — which represents different types of contractors like plumbing or electrical — will serve for a one-year term.
Byrd said the Jan. 27 meeting was largely organizational and hoped to organize a board meeting in February so the board can begin to dictate the way forward for the burgeoning nonprofit.
