The 2025-2026 academic calendar for the Glasgow Independent School District is nearly finalized.
The district’s calendar committee met at the central office to discuss three proposed, tentative calendar layouts on Jan. 29. Along with the three layouts, the members also had copies of the calendar survey that garnered roughly 500 responses from students, parents and staff.
The option that was unanimously favored by the committee members, and favored by survey respondents by 77 percent, had the first day for students on Aug. 26 — with preschool beginning on Sept. 3 — and the last day being set for May 22 for a total of 165 student days. The possible make-up day would be Feb. 17, according to the tentative layout.
James McReynolds, director of pupil personnel, said he would take the committee’s recommendation, confer with the superintendent, and present it to the district’s board of education for its final approval.
According to Kentucky Revised Statute 158.070, the committee and the superintendent get to make, and present, a possible school calendar. Superintendent Chad Muhlenkamp said there is normally uniformity in the calendar presented, and said it would be the same in this instance.
The next regularly scheduled board of education meeting is set for Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
