The federal lobbyist contract with Statesmen Advisory was approved Tuesday, Feb. 18, by all the magistrates of the Barren County Fiscal Court at their regular meeting.

Initially, the contract listed Barren County, Allen County, and the Glasgow Water Company all together, but county Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said each entity now has its own contract with the firm; each being responsible only for its portion of the funds.

In the county’s case that is $2,000 a month.

“We’re trying to get into appropriations, not just grant money,” Magistrate Brad Groce said.

“I fully support this,” Byrd said.

Byrd said Allen County had already approved their contract. Glasgow Water Company General Manager Joe Watson said their board has tabled their contract pending further information.

The idea of utilizing the services of a federal lobbyist was originally discussed at the Dec. 16 Administration and Budget Committee where each magistrate on the committee — Jeff Botts, Groce and Marty Kinslow — expressed their support. This is the second appearance of the contract on the fiscal court agenda; the first being during a Feb. 4 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting when the magistrates opted to table the approval.
