The Barren County Schools Board of Education members approved several bids and a new summer feeding position during their Mar. 13 meeting.
Aside from the two bid renewals on the board’s agenda, the five board members approved a bid for “Barren County High School Baseball Drainage and Upkeep” for $41,500 and a bid for a “Barren County Middle School HVAC unit” for $84,882 through the Kentucky Purchasing Cooperative, which, according to the Kentucky Department of Education, “work…to maximize [district’s] purchasing power, thereby improving their fiscal efficiency.”
Finance Director Joe Murley said the middle school HVAC is still working but is so old “it’s hard to get parts” to repair the existing unit.
Board members also approved summer feeding site supervisors, which Nutrition Director CheyAnne Fant said would entail eight supervisor positions that will oversee the eight summer feeding sites in the district. She said the interest in the summer feeding program has greatly increased, largely attributed to changes in laws that allow families to pick up the food instead of requiring them to eat meals on site.
This story will be updated with additional details at a later date.
