U.S. Bank announced to local customers this month that it is closing its primary location in Glasgow at the southeastern outer corner of the Glasgow Public Square.
Glasgow News 1 reached out to corporate representatives for further information.
“Customers’ banking preferences and behaviors are changing, including a rapid migration toward digital and mobile banking platforms, and a desire for greater simplicity. As we evolve along with our customers, we are reevaluating our physical footprint, and in some instances, consolidating branch locations in select markets,” said Evan Lapiska, vice president for public affairs and corporate communications, via email. “Customers received notification in early January that the Glasgow South Green branch at 200 South Green St. would close on April 6, 2023. We understand that the closure of any branch is a disruption for our customers and our employees and we are working to make the transition as smooth as possible for all involved.”
The customer letter also noted the change would not affect customer accounts and there would be no interruption of service.
Lapinska added: “We are proud of our history in Glasgow and the relationship we have with our customers, employees and the local community, and we look forward to continuing to serve our customers through our other locations in the area, including the Glasgow Wall Street branch that is less than two miles away, along with our convenient digital and voice offerings”
He said he believes the building itself dates to 1970, but he could not say for certain at what point it was first operated under the U.S. Bank name.
GN1 asked about how many tenants rent space in the building, noting its awareness of use by at least other business and a Masonic lodge, and Lapinska said he couldn’t provided information regarding the tenants, but as an owned property, the building will be marketed for sale.
At an auction in October, D.T. Froedge purchased the former Barren County Board of Education building on the southwestern corner of the square for sibling companies, VibraTech Inc. and GeoSonics Corp., which have some of their administrative offices housed in a leased space in the U.S. Bank building.
Around that time, he said it could be as long as two to three years before they occupied the newly acquired place, as extensive remodeling was planned. Froedge said they have good facilities where they are and are happy with them, he said, but at least once before, it appeared they would have to find a new location and had done some looking at other options, finding none that suited them. He said that it fortunately worked out they could stay where they were that time, but they still needed a plan for the future.
He said it had been under at least two other bank names since his companies moved there in the late 1990s.

U.S. Bank has announced to its customers it will be closing this location of its operations in early April. The building will be marketed for sale, a company representative told Glasgow News 1. MELINDA J. OVERSTREET / GLASGOW NEWS 1
