The Barren County Trojanettes exploded for eight runs in the third inning en route to a 12-3 win over Wayne County.
The Lady Cardinals took the early lead in the game with three runs in the top of the first. Barren responded with two runs in the bottom of the second to close to within a run, 3-2.
Then, in the bottom of the third, Katie Elmore led off with a single. She stole second and third during before Gracie Myatt drove her in with a single. Norah Shirley drew a walk. Briley Aidala singled, and moved to second on an error. On the same error, Myatt scored, while Shirley moved to third.
Lizzie Smith doubled to drive in Shirley and Aidala. Adley Cunningham drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Audrey Jones entered to run for Cunningham.
After a pair of outs, Lily Elmore nailed a double to center field, which drove in Smith. Jones scored on the throw to the infield and Elmore moved to third. Katie Elmore was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and third. Katie Elmore stole second before Myatt drove in both Elmores with a single.
The Trojanettes led 10-3 after three innings.
Barren added its final two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Smith led at the plate with three runs. She drove in four runs and scored three. Myatt posted two runs, Katie Elmore, Abby Elmore and Lily Elmore each also had a hit.
Cunningham pitched the distance. She allowed six hits and struck out two.
