The former Park Mammoth Resort building, which is to the west of Park City, off Louisville Road, was destroyed by an early morning fire on Saturday, April 19.

Around 3 a.m. numerous fire departments and emergency personnel responded to the structure including Rocky Hills, Park City, Cave City, Lincoln, Kyrock, Wingfield, Brownsville, Horse Cave and Chalybeate fire departments as well as a Glasgow FireLadder 2, the Edmonson Sheriff’s Office and Barren-Metcalfe EMS.

Rocky Hill Fire Chief Tim Compton said emergency personnel had difficulty getting to the former resort building, which has been abandoned for several years, because six big rocks were lined up keeping the gate closed.

Compton said the former resort is a “total loss” and unsafe to be because the fire burned so hot that it warped the steel I-beams that held up the concrete second floor that is “starting to sag pretty good.”

He said the cause of the fire is unknown at this time as there was no lightning in the area or electricity in the building. A state fire marshal is anticipated to investigate the cause soon, which Compton said is standard procedure.

No injuries were reported.
