14 chosen to receive first-ever CTE legacy awards

Numerous educators and community members received the newly created the CTE legacy award.

“This award recognizes exceptional individuals and partners in both industry and education who have made a lasting impact on Career and Technical Education in Barren County,” according to the area technology center’s social media post.

In light of the 50th anniversary of the Barren County Area Technology Center, a special committee was formed which has created the award, and selected a “diverse and influential group” of Career and Technical Education innovators.

“These educators have shaped the futures of thousands of students, while industry leaders have generously contributed time, funding, and cutting-edge equipment to ensure those students are career-ready,” the post stated. “Together, their dedication has helped make Barren County a beacon of CTE excellence across Kentucky.”

Award recipients include:

  • Agriculture – Bo Matthews
  • Early Childhood Education – Marilyn L. Edwards Barrick
  • Computer Programming/Information Technology – Ruth Ann Gumm
  • Computer Programming/Information Technology – Justin Browning
  • Business – Patrick Gaunce
  • Construction – Greg Felkins
  • Diesel – Ben Pedigo
  • HVAC – Brent Claywell
  • Medical (Inc. Biomed) – Dr. Angela Harlan
  • Welding – Barry Jackson
  • Design Engineering – Ron Zimmerman
  • Machine Tool – Tom Brenttinger
  • Automotive – Hal B. Toms
  • Engineering – Layne Family/Spantech LLC

A celebration of the “legacy of excellence in Career and Technical Education” is scheduled for May 13 at 5 p.m. in Barren County High School’s Auditorium.
