An Illinois man is in jail after fleeing the scene of a collision and leading Kentucky State Police troopers on a chase.
On June 22, “just before” 6 p.m. Kentucky State Police troopers with Post 3 were “en route to Interstate-65 at the 30-mile marker” in response to a possible injury collision. Before arriving to the scene, the trooper got another call saying that 22-year-old Christian Smith of Flossmoor, Illinois, was involved in the collision and had carjacked a black Subaru Forester, fleeing the scene, the state police’s press release stated.
“Smith was later spotted traveling north on U.S. 31-W [Louisville Road], where Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop,” the release stated. “Smith continued on U.S. 31-W until he was finally stopped on the northbound on-ramp to Interstate-65 in Park City.”
He was arrested and taken to the Warren County Regional Jail. In the jail website, Smith has charges of third-degree escape, second-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, disarming a police officer, third-degree assault of a police officer, fourth-degree assault, speeding (20-miles-per-hour over the limit), reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a collision without rendering aid or assistance, carjacking, first-degree criminal mischief, driving under the influence and resisting arrest.
His bond is set at $50,000 with a court date of June 24 at 9 a.m.
