New language relating to qualified manufactured homes, data processing centers and a housing initiative within the Glasgow city limits will be added to the zoning ordinances of Barren County.

In addition to FiveStar’s final development plan and a zone change, the 13 commissioners of the Joint City-County Planning Commission also gave their approval for new language to be added to Glasgow’s, Cave City’s and Park City’s zoning ordinances that defines newly added structures — like what qualified manufactured homes or data processing centers are.

Kentucky House Bill 160, which is now law, qualified manufactured homes are to be allowed in any zone allowing residential dwellings effective July 1, 2026.

Data processing centers, which is defined in the ordinances as “a facility where electronic data is processed…including data entry, storage, conversion or analysis,” will be a conditional use in industrial zones. According to the Kentucky Lantern, the need for data centers has increased and will most likely have individuals bearing the extra energy costs.

For Glasgow, Myatt showed the commissioners the language for the city’s housing initiative that would allow a stacked duplex to go on smaller-than-allowed lots in medium density residential zones.

The language goes to the respective legislative body for its approval, which Myatt said would probably be towards the end of the year.
