Barren County has joined the growing number of Kentucky counties that have issued burn bans.

Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd issued the ban citing the “extremely dry weather” Barren County is experiencing. The ban was issued on Aug. 28 and will remain in effect “until lifted by revocation of this order after the hazardous conditions have abated.”

The order stated campfires that are contained in a fire pit are exempt from the no outside burning order and the penalties and fines associated with the ban, which are fines ranging between $100 and $500, according to the county’s code of ordinances.

Adair, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Edmonson, Green, and Warren counties have also issued burn bans as of Aug. 28, according to the Energy and Environment Cabinet.
