A man was arrested in a grocery store parking lot on drug charges on Sept. 21.

Glasgow police officers arrested 47-year-old James Birge in the Save-A-Lot parking lot after receiving a complaint of a “suspicious male subject,” according to a Glasgow Police Department press release. Upon making contact with Birge, who was crouched behind “a support post in front of the store,” police officers asked him if he had used illegal drugs and Birge allegedly said he used methamphetamine “a couple of days ago,” according to his uniform citation.

Officers then found “half a gram” of methamphetamine and a glass pipe “inside a small tin box belonging to Birge,” the release and the uniform citation stated. He was arrested without issue, according to the citation.

Birge is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree possession of methamphetamine (first offense). His court date is scheduled for Sept. 25, according to the jail website.
