After several months awaiting a mental evaluation, Glasgow’s murder case appears to be moving forward once again.
Twenty-eight-year-old Dedontae Morrison appeared in Barren County Circuit Court on Sept. 22 for a pretrial conference. Previously, a mental evaluation had been ordered to see if Morrison could stand trial. During the pretrial conference his attorney, Lauren Hunter, deferred to the evaluation performed by the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center
“We’ll stipulate to the [Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center] report and ask you to make a decision based on that,” Hunter said to Circuit Judge John Alexander during the conference.
Another pretrial date is set for Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
An evaluation is ordered by the court if there is some suspicion that the person charged with a crime cannot adequately understand the charges against them, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
The evaluation is confidential.
Morrison was arrested in March 2024 by Barren County sheriff deputies in the area of Lee Fendell Road, north of Glasgow and connects Ky. 90 and Stovall Road, after allegedly stabbing 55-year-old Robert Fields.
