Portions of the downtown square in Glasgow will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Due to the Market on the Square event, the north, south and east sides of the Square will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. “until the event has ended,” according to a press release from the Glasgow Police Department.
The free event, put on by the Glasgow Business and Professional Women’s Club, is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature over 70 craft vendors, food trucks, kids games and entertainment.
Barren County Clerk Helena Chase Birdwell said her office will be closed on Sept. 27. Her office is on the first floor of the Barren County Government Building on the north side of the Square.
“We are not going to have Saturday hours this month,” Birdwell said during her report at the Sept. 16 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting. “We try to be open the last Saturday of every month, but every time there’s a shindig…that kills our business. It’s not economical to spend tax payer dollars to pay overtime for the staff when there aren’t enough customers to offset that.”
