Last month, Barren County’s unemployment rate was back below 5 percent, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
In August, the unemployment rate was 4.6 percent. That is compared to the 5.8 percent that was reported in August 2024 and the 6 percent announced in July of this year. Every Kentucky county except Martin County had a decrease in the rate for August, according to the center.
The numbers announced by the center are not seasonally adjusted because of the small sample size. Seasonally adjusted numbers can vary from the initial rate due to “seasonal events such as weather changes, harvests, holidays, and school openings and closings,” the center stated.
There were 17,908 people in Barren County’s civilian labor force in August, and 825 listed as unemployed, according to the center.
“Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work,” the center stated. “They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.”
Kentucky’s unemployment rate was 4.3 percent and the U.S. rate was 4.5 percent in August.
