For the next two days, Barren County residents will have a free opportunity to dispose of items which would normally necessitate a trip to the landfill.

The fall cleanup event will take place Oct. 23-24 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Barren County Road Department’s lower lot, which is located on County Barn Road, off of Roseville Road. Dumpsters will be removed at 4 p.m. each day, an event flyer stated.

Such large items as appliances, couches, dressers, mattresses and recliners will be accepted while items like tires, brush, batteries, liquids, paints, oils and pesticides will not.

The county office of solid waste also requests all small items either be bagged or boxed. The office also advises people to “bring help to unload items into the provided dumpsters.”

At the Oct. 21 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting Barren County Solid Waste Coordinator Marcus Thurman urged residents to take advantage of the free event.

“Let’s clean up the county,” Thurman said.
