Whether its providing a common public space for groups to use, or in providing free materials and offering free programs, the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library serves the Barren County community in a variety of ways.
Library Director Ami Sandell showed the cumulative impact of the county’s library by means of her annual report for the fiscal year 2024-25, which she presented to the magistrates during the Oct. 21 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting.
“[The annual report] showed that we saved patrons of the community over $2 million when they use library services,” Sandell said at Tuesday’s meeting.
In addition to the amount saved, the library year-in-review showed that over 60,000 books were borrowed as were over 121,000 e-books and other digital items. More than 70 laptops and hotspots were borrowed during the fiscal year with over 6,000 hours logged on the library’s computers and Wi-Fi.
All told, there were 370 different programs offered through the library with roughly 11,900 attendees. The meeting space also logged over 2,100 hours of use, according to the report.
The year-in-review states there were over 55,000 visits to Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library and 2,500 individuals visited to bookmobile.
