Second-grader Charleigh Perkins is known around Eastern Elementary for her initiative and kindness.
She is the type of person who will offer a reward she received to another student who may be having a bad day to help brighten theirs, said CheyAnne Fant, who was speaking on behalf of Eastern Elementary Principal Erika Devore during the Barren County Schools Board of Education meeting Thursday evening at the district’s central office.
Perkins was being recognized as the Student of the Month.
“Charleigh is such a caring soul and heart,” Fant said. “She always thinks about others and often makes sure that they are happy before she thinks of herself.
“She can be found picking up around the lunchroom or also in the classroom — even things that are not hers, but she knows that it needs to be done.”
Perkins also “loves to help prepare for the following day, and will take initiative to do things like tidying up and getting lunch choices ready without even being asked,” Fant continued. “She may be helping one person pack their backpack, another person help clean out their desk, or helping the teacher to prepare things.”
“Eastern loves her caring and helpful heart,” Fant said. “They are so blessed to have her as an Eastern Wildcat, and we are blessed to call you a Barren County Trojan.”
Fant finished the recognition by saying that another staff member shared that Perkins’ “commitment to cleanliness, helpfulness and bringing joy through her smile helps create a warm and welcoming and respectful environment at Eastern Elementary.”
“Recognizing her encourages a culture of kindness and responsibility.”
