The recently constructed Trojan Campus access road is being named in memory of Betty Ross Bailey, and will be known as “Bailey Way” for the next 30 years.
Members of Bailey’s family were recognized at the Barren County Schools Board of Education meeting last week, and they were presented with a commemorative sign.
“Tonight, we are honored to recognize a very special Leave a Legacy contribution made in memory of Betty Ross Bailey, whose life of service, compassion and community spirit continues to impact Barren County,” said CheyAnne Fant, director of food services and after-school programs for the school district. “Betty Bailey was a proud native of Hiseville and a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she majored in social work.”
Fant said Bailey devoted her career to serving others — first as a director of social services at the state tuberculosis hospital in Glasgow, and later as a probation and parole officer.
Betty Ross Bailey died on Feb. 21, 2022, at the age of 88, according to her obituary.
“Betty was known for her mentoring of young social workers and for the strong ethics and dedication that she brought to her profession,” Fant said. “Betty enjoyed entertaining, traveling, supporting local charities.
“The Bailey family has chosen to honor Betty’s extraordinary life through her generous contribution to the Barren County Education Foundation.”
As a tribute and to preserve her legacy, the new access road on Trojan Trail will be known as “Bailey Way,” Fant said. “This commemorative sign will mark the location for the next 30 years, ensuring that Betty’s legacy of service, kindness and community spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who pass through on that road.”
The idea of the access road — which offshoots from Trojan Trail to behind Barren County middle and high schools — was first openly discussed at a board of education meeting in September 2023. Former Superintendent Bo Matthews had explained that the goal of the road was to alleviate morning and afternoon school traffic on Trojan Trail.
