RECAP: Trojans capture tourney title at Logan

The Barren County Trojans won three games in three days to capture at holiday tournament title at Logan County.

On Sunday night, Barren held off Raceland, 59-51, to win the H & H Holiday Hoopfest. Other than a run by the Rams in the third quarter, the Trojans led throughout.

In the third, the Trojans led by as many as 13 points before the Rams closed the quarter on a run that tied the game at 36-all early into the fourth quarter. With about 6:30 left in the game, Raceland took a 38-37 lead.

With 6:15 to play, Gavin Nunn was fouled shooting a layup. He stepped to the line and hit both free throws to spark an 8-0 run by the Trojans. That proved decisive as Barren led the rest of the way en route to winning the tourney title.

Kade Hardy led the Trojans with 14 points, while Cameron Pippen added 11.

On Saturday, the Trojans held off Carlisle County, 55-50, to advance to the tournament championship.

Barren trailed 25-21 at halftime, but rallied in the third quarter to take a 37-36 lead after three.

The Trojans continued to play solid defense in the final period to secure the trip to the championship.

Hardy led the Trojans with 14 points, while Weston Shelton added 13, and Maddox Griggs finished with 11.

After more than a week off, Barren County returned to action Friday with a decisive, 73-40, win over Springfield, Tenn., at Logan County.

The Trojans jumped ahead early and led 25-3 at the end of the first quarter. They pushed their lead to 50-17 by halftime. Many reserves saw action in the game en route to the 33-point win.

Shelton led Barren with 19 points, while Griggs added 18, Hardy scored 13, and Carson Browning finished with 11.
