An addition to the Area Technology Center will soon become a reality.

Members of the Barren County Schools Board of Education accepted a $2.5 million bid submitted by Sunbelt Construction — which is located in Bowling Green — for construction on the long-anticipated ATC addition that was announced at the April 2025 board meeting. According to prior reporting, the new addition will add roughly 5,000 square feet to the existing center, which is located on the district’s campus on Trojan Trail.

Assistant Superintendent Scott Harper said once completed this addition will house classrooms for the industrial maintenance pathway, according to prior reporting.

Barren County Schools Director of Facilities Anthony Frazier said six construction bids were submitted, and opened on Feb. 5. Though meetings regarding specifics will occur next week, Frazier told Glasgow News 1 that he hoped construction teams would begin work soon.

“They’ll probably start mobilizing within the next 30 days,” Frazier said. “That’s what I’m hoping.”

Money to pay for this addition comes from a $4.2 million School Facility Construction Commission grant. Finance Director Joe Murley said the district would receive the grant when the project is “shovel ready.”
