State Rep. Steve Riley told WCLU site selection is underway for the new Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College nursing facility in Glasgow.
The Barren County representative said Friday morning, “…they’re in the process now of purchasing land for the new post-secondary facility for SKyCTC here in Glasgow.”
The nursing school is presently housed in a building off State Avenue. The campus sits behind T.J. Samson Community Hospital on North Race Street.
“The facility now that’s behind the hospital is going to eventually be replaced, and the last budget — two years ago — we got a substantial amount of money to build a new SkyCTC facility,” Riley said Friday. “I met with [KCTCS] President Ryan Quarles the other day, and he said that process will be finalized soon as far as the location of that facility.”
The office of the Kentucky House Speaker announced in April 2025 that $28 million had been slated for construction of the new campus.
“In addition to maintaining the current programs at the Glasgow campus, Kentucky Community and Technical College System expects the campus to offer registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and medical aid programs at the new facility,” the release stated.
“… The facilities are very much outdated, especially in the areas of nursing and other medical-related areas. So, we have secured funding two years ago for a new facility, and we’re making progress on that,” Riley said Friday.
In 2025, the General Assembly passed House Joint Resolution 34. The measure authorized release of $90 million appropriated during the 2024 Regular Session for capital construction projects for Kentucky Community and Technical College System. The $28 million for the Glasgow building was part of that money.
The new local healthcare instruction building will primarily focus on nursing and allied healthcare programs but also include general education instruction.
“Thanks to the support of our elected officials, we are investing in modern education and training spaces that ensure academic and technical programs across KCTCS are at the leading edge and aligned to the workforce and career needs of our students and our state,” Quarles said in 2025. “This new SKyCTC campus in Glasgow will provide an improved learning environment for our students who are going into the essential allied health career field that is rapidly expanding in this region.”
