A Glasgow High School sophomore is one of the students chosen for The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science.

Jacob Judd is one of just 97 Kentucky sophomores selected for the academy’s class of 2028 — the academy’s twenty-first class. He will complete his junior and senior years of high school while living on the Western Kentucky University’s campus, according to an academy press release.

Director Lynette Breedlove said each year’s admissions process brings in “incredible young people from all over the Commonwealth who are seeking opportunities to take the most advanced coursework possible in science, technology, engineering, and math,” adding that members of the Class of 2028 are “remarkable representatives of their communities ready to explore their infinite possibilities.”

Applicants to The Gatton Academy are evaluated on ACT or SAT scores, high school grades, awards and accomplishments, extracurricular activities, written responses and recommendation forms, according to the release. Candidates are also invited to interview with Western Kentucky University faculty members, community leaders and academy alumni.

Students admitted to the two-year residential program live in Florence Schneider Hall while completing university coursework and research opportunities with WKU faculty members.

Graduates typically finish high school with a minimum of 60 college credit hours and an Associate Degree of Interdisciplinary Studies from Western Kentucky University, according to the release.
