Cave City man killed after bike struck on Dixie Highway

A Cave City man was killed Saturday when the bicycle he was riding was struck on U.S. 31-W in Cave City.

Kentucky State Police troopers were called to assist the Cave City Police Department about 9 p.m. Saturday in regards to a fatal collision, according to a state police press release. Troopers responded to the 1200 block of North Dixie Highway (U.S. 31-W) near the Travel Inn.

A preliminary investigation indicates that King Martin, 65, of Cave City, was operating a bicycle southbound on U.S. 31-W. A 2024 Nissan Murano, operated by Phillip West, 49, of Horse Cave, was also traveling southbound when the front end of the vehicle struck Martin’s bicycle, according to the press release. Martin was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office.

Martin’s funeral arrangements were incomplete as of Monday afternoon.

The ongoing investigation is being led by Detective Bo Hubbard. He was assisted at the scene by the Cave City Police Department, Barren County Emergency Medical Services, the Barren County Coroner’s Office, and additional state police personnel.
