The winner of the Republican primary for Barren County Jailer still faces another election in November.
Incumbent Aaron Shirley won Tuesday with 74 percent votes cast in the Republican race, while Freddie Joe Wilkerson was second with 14 percent and Larry Poteet had five percent. The vote totals are unofficial.
James Scott is the Democratic Party nominee for jailer. He was the only member of his party running, so he did not face a primary competition.
Shirley first won election in 2022. He had not previously held elected office.
Partisan elections, such as those for judge-executive, sheriff’s office and jailer, are closed, meaning only those voters registered as a Republican or Democrat could vote in their respective partisan primaries. In Barren County, there were no local office Democratic party primaries.
