STAFF REPORT

The Cave City Police Department is asking parents to speak with their children after receiving multiple complaints about individuals ringing doorbells and running away during late evening hours.
In a public service announcement posted Wednesday, the department said several residents have reported incidents commonly referred to as “ding dong ditch,” a prank in which a person rings a home’s doorbell before quickly leaving the area.
While often viewed by young people as harmless fun, police noted that the activity can cause concern for homeowners, particularly after dark.
“Although a fair game of ‘ding dong ditch’ can be quite entertaining to youngsters, it is alarming to citizens and can become dangerous,” the department stated.
Police emphasized that unexpected visitors late at night may create anxiety for residents and could potentially lead to unsafe situations for both homeowners and those participating in the prank.
The department is encouraging parents and guardians to discuss the potential risks associated with the activity and to remind children to be respectful of their neighbors.
At the request of residents, Cave City officers will also be increasing patrols in neighborhoods where complaints have been reported.
Anyone with concerns about suspicious activity in their neighborhood is encouraged to contact the department at 270-773-2441.
